Look-a-likes???

This is my sister, Spelly, and my daughter, #3. To me, there is no doubt they are from the same family but even if they don't look a like, their personalities are one in the same!! I am raising my sister!!

Again, I must point these are pictures of two very pretty little girls.

Look-a-likes???

Now that I put the two pictures together, I see #1 and I look like we belong to the same family but not as much as look-a-likes as what people think.

Though I must add, these are pictures of two very pretty little girls.

Another year...

Another year has come and gone. Obviously with no fanfare but with a great deal of reflectiveness. I am not unhappy about my age nor overly concerned with it either but the thought of "where did the time go" did cross my mind several times today. Then this evening, the kids and I watched another old movie, Sunset Blvd, on TMC. That snapped me back into reality! I do not want to end up as a Norma Desmond!

But alas my age is catching up to me and I must turn in for the night. I no longer can pull an all nighter and still function the next day. More on my reflective thoughts tomorrow. I am sure you will be checking back to read.

What do you get when...

What do you get when you take two sisters, the same age, to the eye doctor to see if they need glasses? You get one sister who is very happy because she needs glasses and one sister who is very upset because she does not need glasses.

I felt pretty sure that #3 would need glasses for school but iffy if #1 would. Well, my hunches were right and #1 is still crying because her eyes are a hair bit over the line of good. The doctor said she MAY need glasses by next year but this year the prescription was so small it seemed wasteful to get her glasses. She has 20/20 for reading but far away gets a little blurry. And far away meaning across a football field.

I did feel sorry for her. Right now glasses are so cool and #3 had picked out a neat hot pink frame and was going to inquire if they sold frames with puppies on them.

I tried to comfort #1 by reminding her that at some point she will have to wear head gear for her teeth. Her excitement of this possibility boils over when she talks about it but the subject offered little comfort at the eye doctor's office. I also reminded her that she has been the only child in our family to sprain her ankle really bad, require a trip to the emergency room and need crutches. Again, little comfort, plus 'Mom, that was ages ago.'

I then pointed out to her that all was not lost, there is always next year.

$99 or more saved again!!

Since my husband has fallen prey to the economic down turn and can be included in the 500,000+ people nationwide in December who lost their job, being thrifty is even more important. So how thankful do you think I am that Jay can work on cars?....Ok, I was totally going make a joke by saying $99 dollars thankful but Jay just came inside to find out about a missing part on the brakes (he is working on my brakes as I blog) on Autozone.com. Now, if my van had been at the shop having the pads changed and the mechanic realized some part of the brake disc hardware was missing, how much would they con me into paying for that $9.00 part plus labor? I guess now I must say his ability to fix cars is priceless! Especially in this economy!!

Special Assembly Day

This past weekend, we had our Special Assembly Day in Utah. We spent the night and had a picnic at the lunch the break with our friends. I am happy to report that this trip to Utah did not include a trip to the doc-in-the-box, as did our last trip, for sickness.

The girls were able to wear two new dresses I made Friday night for this trip.

This picture is just a random picture of the view from our seats. I believe we had 2,100 people Sunday!

Photo Challenge

Lynnie from Monkey Bread Tree challenged me to a Photo Find Mission. This mission is simply to look in the fourth folder and find your fourth picture and post it on your blog. Since Jason and I tried to "modify" our last computer and therefore now have a new computer, I no longer have real files for my pictures. So I did the next best thing, I found the fourth picture in the fourth folder on one of my random jump drives and found:

This is a picture of what my dad believes to be Art Bell's house. When Deddy (yes this is how I spell it because this is how I have been told I say it) came to visit a few years ago, he wanted to make a trip to find Art Bell's house. Art Bell's Coast to Coast was the staple late night radio talk show we listened to as we did papers in the middle of the night. Little did I ever know there would come a time in my life that I could name a late night radio talk show host let alone have a picture of this man's house in my possession.

Old School Pictures

I just put most of these on my FB page and thought I would share on my blog. Oh the memories. I may be feeling more nostalgic lately because the 22nd of this month means I am officially in my "late 30's". Oh, I long for the day of turning 20 and worried that 30 was too close around the corner.

$40 + tip saved...

I cut all three of the boys' hair tonight. The "boys" include Jay. I have cut all their hair many times in the past yet it took on a new meaning of savings this time.

I think I can blend the sides, back and top fairly well at this point but I have always struggled with the ear area. But tonight I felt like I totally got the hang of the white wall concept and all six ears came out very good. I didn't even shake while I was clipping!

As long as none of the boys want a "style" I think they will continue to be happy with our barber shop at home.

Showing the sights

Velma and Uncle Jesse were only here for a short time so we had to see some sights quick. We tried to see the Dam several times but the line was way too long. So we went to the Dam museum and then headed down to the strip for great view of the city from the Stratosphere. Velma was more than willing to ride any of the rides almost 1,000 feet off the ground but the rest of the adults smiled a politely declined such an adventure. Well, actually, we started shaking and screaming "no way Jose!". Though, in our younger years, Jay and I have been on the Big Shot several times but unfortunately at this time, I think I would have curled up in the fetus position and required therapy if I tried it again.

After our outing, the adults had a nice dinner at Sunset Station then back home for drinks and lively conversation on how seniors believe what they want to believe as far as what senior organizations tell them. Don't quite understand what the conversation was about?? Well neither did we and the wine didn't help.

We all had a great time visiting, riding motorcycles and drinking wine. Too bad no one is here now so I can read my post out loud to them.

Looking for Aliens

Pappy once again road E.T. Hwy looking for aliens and a glimpse of Area 51. This time he did it on his bike and with his friend, Velma. I think they both decided the time of year to look for aliens is NOT in the winter or at least not without their toe warmers!

Gaming fun...

I won't deny that we are a family who is "plugged in" and this became even more apparent when I caught Uncle Jesse and #4 glued to my G1 phone and the boys' new DS. How very sad. Oh well, a new year and a new focus except #4 doesn't realize it yet.
